Rosatom’s enterprise JSC ETC GET opened School of Simulation at Don State Technical University

On September 28, 2023, the Engineering and Technology Center GET opened the School of Simulation at the Don State Technical University (DSTU) - the third school as part of the expansion of the company’s network of engineering and mathematical schools. “School of Simulation” project was launched last year - the corresponding centers are successfully operating at Kazan State Energy University and Tomsk Polytechnic University.

The School of Simulation is designed to promote the development of talented youth, i.e. senior students of DSTU seeking professional development in Russian mathematical simulation, and is also aimed at training specialists to work with the domestic technology of simulator building, created and used for 30 years by ETC GET.

Training at the School is carried out on the basis of the REPEAT software complex which is a model-oriented design and mathematical simulation environment. REPEAT is a completely import-independent development of the ETC GET which is used by design institutes, design bureaus and educational institutions to create a sovereign information environment. During training, DSTU students will be able to acquire the skills for developing models of power facilities and processes, creating digital twins, designing to increase the efficiency of power facilities, reducing costs of production processes and the number of downtime hours and incidents, as well as conducting virtual tests of the designed equipment.

The opening events of the School were attended by the representatives of Rusatom Service JSC, JSC ETC GET, DSTU Rector's Office, leading industrial enterprises, including leaders in the construction of new generation equipment, in the creation of spectral and thermal imaging equipment of the highest accuracy, in the manufacture of equipment for the oil and gas industry, etc. After the opening ceremony, Sergey Bukreev, the Director of GET LAB LLC, held a panel discussion “Digital Simulation for Modern Business” during which experts spoke about the importance of this technology in increasing the efficiency of enterprises.

“Highly qualified personnel have always been and remain Rosatom's key asset. We take a systematic approach to their training, starting from school, continuing in colleges and universities and then within the industry. I hope that the new School of Simulation of the Engineering and Technical Center GET will become an important link in our ecosystem of unlocking personnel potential, a place to acquire and broaden skills that meet the requirements of the time. And we plan to continue this work. The more technological and engineering schools will open, the more impetus for development this will give both to the nuclear industry and the country as a whole”, Tatyana Terentyeva, the Deputy General Director for Personnel of Rosatom State Corporation, congratulated her colleagues on the opening.

“Our cooperation with the high-tech company GET is reaching a new level. Today, life and development in general are impossible without digitalization. Our graduates work in major companies of various industries, including nuclear power. Without mathematical simulation, it is impossible to implement projects in the field of medicine, bioengineering, construction and many other industries. We will look for new common ground and develop cooperation”, said Besarion Meskhi, the Rector of DSTU.

“In a very short period of time since the signing of the cooperation agreement with DSTU, we have managed to do a lot. We very much hope that the School of Simulation we created will be a powerful impetus for the development of simulation both in the university and in our company. We highly appreciate the potential for cooperation with DSTU and, taking into account the multidisciplinary nature of the university, we are optimistic about the possibility of expanding our further cooperation”, said Alexey Kovalevich, the Managing Director of JSC ETC GET.

The “School of Simulation” is implemented within the framework of the “Simulation Factory” nuclear industry project. The project is aimed at training young specialists with an appropriate set of competencies to work in the field of simulation in the nuclear power industry. The main goal of the project is to form a permanent personnel pool from among students and graduates of flagship universities in the regions of the Russian Federation who have successfully passed a joint training program for taking part in the implementation of international projects of JSC ETC GET.
