For the first time Rosatom SC has introduced a new digital product - a model-oriented design and mathematical modeling environment REPEAT (Real-time Platform for Engineering Automated Technologies).
REPEAT is an import-independent design of ETC GET JSC (part of Rusatom Service, ROSATOM JSC), which is becomes widespread in design institutes, design bureaus and educational institutions to create a sovereign information environment.
The software product was created with the help of Russian Information Technology Development Fund (RITDF), an operator of the state support measures of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation. ETC JET JSC fund provided a corresponding grant for the project in 2021. Due to the support of RITDF, a powerful project team was built to engage IT staff from the highly competitive digital industry labor market.
The the software system was launched within the framework of the international scientific conference "Supercomputing Days in Russia". The event became an effective platform for communication and experience exchange among representatives of science, industry, business, education, and state agencies related to the development or use of supercomputer technology, artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling, and data storage systems.
REPEAT is designed to create mathematical models of complex plants and processes, including digital twins, in the energy sector. Its application contributes to increased efficiency of power facilities, reduced cost of production processes, reduced outages and unforeseen accidents.
The software package is relevant for educational institutions aimed at improving digital skills of students, gaining knowledge in design and engineering. The product enables to develop models of power facilities and processes, create digital twins, design to improve the efficiency of power facilities, reduce the cost of production processes and the number of outages and accidents, as well as to conduct virtual tests of the designed equipment.
Dmitry Fomichev, Director of Mathematical Modeling at Rosatom State Corporation, addressed the panel session in his welcoming remarks and spoke about the ecosystem of Rosatom's mathematical modeling products: “The digital product REPEAT was created on the basis of a very serious scientific, technical and engineering background of ETC GET JSC. It is intended to expand the range of tasks in high-tech industry and education, as well as the functions of the entire Russian CAE products line. In general, Rosatom's policy is a movement towards creation of a complex multiphysics simulation environment that will be functionally and technically able to solve a wide range of tasks. The synergy of our software products, such as Logos, which allows 2D/3D modeling, and REPEAT, designed for 0D/1D modeling, will enable simulation of complex physical phenomena in a fairly short time without resorting to experimental data and relying only on mathematical calculations”.
During the product presentation, the managing director of ETC GET JSC Alexey Kovalevich emphasized the value of REPEAT for educational institutions: "We are proud to launch our software package and set ambitious plans for its replication in the industry and beyond. As REPEAT developers, we highly value that our digital solutions are being used in educational institutions. We are sure that for the students of educational institutions our software package will be an important starting point for gaining invaluable digital expertise and skills in working with IT engineering systems.
The cloud version of REPEAT was demonstrated as part of the product presentation. "There is every reason to believe that REPEAT will grow into a worthy and competitive equivalent to foreign software. This result was achieved due to the accumulated experience, as well as the introduction of a number of important functional components: cloud infrastructure with flexible access via Web-browser or application from any device, built-in parallel computing library, data and model integration. To match the quality level of global developments with many years of operational experience is not only a challenge, but also a step towards reputational leadership in the context of required technological sovereignty. Our company has confidently taken this step”, noted Sergey Boukreev, technical director of ETC GET JSC.
Natalia Chichirova, Head of the Department of Nuclear and Thermal Power Plants at Kazan State Power Engineering University, told about the School of Simulation established jointly with ETC GET JSC and the VVER-1200 NPP simulator which is based on REPEAT product, and also supported the idea of replicating the software package REPEAT in educational institutions: "The software package developed by engineers of ETC GET JSC is an example of high potential for fulfillment of strategic tasks relevant for the whole country. It is especially important to support the younger generation in this area. In this sense, the REPEAT-based simulator allows us to gain skills in operation of nuclear power plants, knowledge in design and engineering, and additional digital expertise. We appreciate the potential of this product for training purposes at KSEU, including for the achievement of national goals."
"REPEAT represents the first commercial product in the digital product line of Rusatom JSC Service Group. In light of the trend toward comprehensive digital business transformation, the launch of REPEAT is a milestone for fulfilling our leadership potential in a changing market. Decades of experience in mathematical modeling accumulated by ETC GET JSC open up new horizons for the company to work effectively in this market. We expect that REPEAT is a foundation in the ecosystem of mathematical modeling, which we plan to create for our partners. We hope that the product will prove itself as a worthy equivalent of foreign software at the highest level”, said Yuri Stepanov, Head of the Project Office for Digitalization at Rusatom Service JSC.
The software product aroused genuine interest among the audience of the "MSU Supercomputing Days" conference. As part of the panel discussion, six-month access to the REPEAT cloud platform were raffled off among the audience, and opportunities for cooperation with the session participants - leading educational institutions and industrial enterprises - were discussed.
